Independent Financial Adviser (Milne Craig)

Paisley, Near Glasgow

Milne Craig

Job Description

Milne Craig have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced financial adviser seeking a long term position, looking after the clients of a well-established, professional firm.

We are a leading Wealth Management and Accountancy firm, originally founded in 1914.

Our financial services division was established by our existing Director, Kate Brown, in 1995 and has five financial advisers (four of whom are Chartered Financial Planners), with specialisms in Retirement Planning, Trusts and investment and corporate benefits. Together with the support team, we employ 16 staff and the advisers receive an excellent level of Paraplanning, technical and administrative support.

At this stage, the business needs an experienced adviser to join the team and pick up new enquiries, as the existing advisers are at full capacity. We are never short of new opportunities, from client referrals, the accountancy practice and introductions from professional connections. Being part of a commercially successful accountancy practice provides us with a significant amount of business support, not to mention direct access to tax-related services and other expertise. You will be joining the firm at a crucial time and working alongside the existing team to ensure we are able to offer a high quality, modern, adaptable financial planning service for the long term.

You will receive mentoring and assistance from the existing advisers and will be encouraged and supported through exam progress if desired.

We enjoy a great relationship with our clients, most of whom are based in the Scottish central belt although with several spread across the UK and beyond. Many have been with us for a long time and transitioned with us from their working lives to an enjoyable, well-funded retirement.

Housed in a converted school building, there is easy parking and we are within walking distance of the train station.

  • You will be the first point of contact for your clients and will provide independent advice, mainly, but not limited to, the following areas: investments, pension funding, retirement planning, tax mitigation, Trusts and IHT, protection and later life planning. There may also be the opportunity to get involved with corporate financial planning and group schemes.

  • Ensure your technical knowledge is kept up to date, utilising in house resources and support, external training and/or continued exam study as relevant.

  • Build good working relationships with the rest of the team, the support staff and main contacts in the accountancy practice.

  • Follow internal compliance processes at all times, engaging with external file checks and in house guidance and procedures regarding best practice and regulatory developments.

  • Apply our Investment Proposition – adhering to the processes developed by the Investment Committee but contributing to this work on request.

  • Ensure that client annual reviews are delivered on time and to a good standard, any adhoc client needs are met and a good relationship is maintained.

  • Generate sufficient business income to cover costs and earn potential additional bonus.

  • Make appropriate use of our client management system to manage tasks and log activity.

  • Oversee the work of less experienced staff where required and possible participation in training and mentoring of graduate trainees.

Essential Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have Competent Adviser status, be experienced in managing client relationships and providing advice across the spectrum of financial products and planning areas.

  • Chartered or working towards Chartered Status.

  • Ability to discuss financial markets, economic developments, investment risks and asset allocation decisions with clients where necessary.

  • Comfortable with cash flow modelling or willing to learn.

  • Enthusiasm for our industry, our profession and our role in helping individuals achieve their financial goals.

  • A strong team player, who works well alongside others, but also independently.

  • Enjoys a busy office environment, although flexible working practices apply.
